Handmade Home Accessories & Jewellery

by ceramic artist Carys Boyle

I was lucky enough to grow up in the seaside village of New Quay in West Wales and have been playing with clay for as long as I can remember.  The beach has clay cliffs and as kids we would take a walk on the beach and sit happily making little pots in the sunshine.  I still use the Welsh beaches as inspiration for my work.

I also did pottery in school then specialised in Ceramics at Art College.

Whilst in Art College I was using a technique called Slip Casting where you turn clay into a liquid form and make plaster moulds to enable small batches to be produced.  Whilst making these I was interested in the small splashes of clay on the plaster and pushed this technique further to create my own distinct style of porcelain interior accessories and jewellery.

The process and the firing have a large part to play in the final pieces making each piece unique. All pieces are made by hand using the finest Cornish porcelain, and a common thread throughout all of my work is to reflect the feeling, colours, forms and textures of the seaside.

Carys specialised in Ceramics at the North Wales School of Art.   After graduating, her work was discovered by Notonthehighstreet.com at a New Designer convention and has continued to sell on the platform ever since.

To this day, Carys still uses Welsh beaches as the main inspiration for her work and has since designed products for London's Victoria & Albert Museum, Harrods and ITV’s Love Island.

Coastal Influence

The coastal environment inspires her sculptural range. Each piece is crafted in porcelain using a contemporary and highly skilled technique, giving each of these delicate pieces a distinct and unique appearance. The sculptural range is available through the Online Popup Shop.

Clay is one of the most sustainable artist materials to work with, as it’s a natural material and any mistakes or leftover clay can be reused. She also uses traditional ceramic techniques for her personalised items, which doesn’t include any plastic or vinyl coatings.

All products are presented in modern packaging which is made from recycled materials and sourced in the UK.
